Kenats/Genats: Beginning in the 1970s, Armenians found their home in the East Hollywood area of Los Angeles: opening businesses, churches, and schools. Many of them have left the neighborhood for Glendale and its surrounding areas, however nearly ten years ago, East Hollywood was christened Little Armenia and it was the most official way that the State of California could recognize the prominent presence of Armenian-Americans in the City of Los Angeles. On May 24, 2009 at 7 p.m., a freeway sign that read “Little Armenia, Next Exit” was implanted on the 101 Freeway, directing everyone to the historic home of Armenian-Americans in the Southern California.
