Ani Tamrazyan always knew that she would grow to become a singer and performer. But it wasn’t until the age of nine, when Armenian sensation Aram Asatryan (a family friend of the Tamrazyans) heard her singing and dancing along to Britney Spears with a fake microphone, when he wrote her very own song, entitled “Mankutsyan Ashxar.” She went to a recording studio for the first time, and since that day, has been on stage, performing her heart out, pursuing her life’s passion.
Ani Helen Tamrazyan, born on April 27, 1989 in Hollywood, comes from a musically-gifted family. Her older brother is a professional piano and dhol player, and her father plays the piano as well as the accordion. For as long as she could remember, Tamrazyan’s grandfather would teach her songs and melodies. “He wouldn’t let me go to bed until I sang a song for him,” Tamrazyan remembers. She began attending a theatrical school as a child, and at the age of twelve, she had her first performance at Aram Asatryan’s Golden 50th Birthday at the Alex Theatre in Glendale, California.
Since then, Tamrazyan has worked with many talented people including, songwriter and producer Aram Avagyan, singer Elvina Makarian, singer and actor Chuko, songwriter Maneh Hakobyan, and many others. An artist who’s had a huge influence on Tamrazyan is Armenchik. “He gives me the courage to know that people can follow their dreams and do what they love to do,” said Tamrazyan. She loves to listen to all types of music, but her absolute favorite song of all-time is the Armenian classic “Erebuni Yerevan.”
Tamrazyan believes that the only way to accomplish something is to work hard at it because anything is possible to reach as long as you have the will power. She lives by this mantra, especially before going up on stage, when she’s most nervous. “I feel this special kind of nervousness, but it goes away the moment I step on stage,” explains Tamrazyan. Her next performance will be at the Armenian Music Awards at the Nokia Theatre on December 13, 2009.
The Armenian community has supported her more than she ever expected. She gets very excited when she sees her fans supporting her and cheering her on during performances. Tamrazyan has put a lot of hard work and time into her first album, entitled “TamRaNi,” which was released on September 9, 2009. “TamRaNi” stands for Tamrazyan Ani, which is also used as her second name. When the printing shop notified her that her album was ready to be picked up, she was very excited and had tears in her eyes. “I remember having the biggest smile on my face. I just never believed that this day would ever truly come,” stated Tamrazyan.
Even though singing and performing are Tamrazyan’s passions, school and work are very important to her as well. She is currently taking classes at a university to get her Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration.
Although this has been a bumpy road for her, she wouldn’t change anything. This chapter of her life has made her more independent, and she keeps learning something new each and every day. “It is a possibility for anyone to achieve what they wish for, as long as they believe in themselves. Take a chance and be happy because this moment is your life!”
