It was a Saturday morning, and I was supposed to meet with the members of the Armenian band, The Fall of April. As I drove to the Coffee Bean to conduct this much-anticipated interview, I pictured a stereotypical group of band members with a cliché, rocker look.
Sitting at the café waiting for the band to arrive, I spot four clean-cut young men approaching me. And so the questioning began.

Mariam Tsarutyan: What is the official name of your band?
Danny Amirian: The official name of the band is The Fall of April. It’s a very unique name, to us at least, because it was inspired by something very important to our people, the Armenian Genocide.

MT: How many members does the band have?
DA: The band has five members total. Our names are Emil Amirian, Mikeal Voskanian, Raffe Zadorian, Edi Voskanian, and I, Danny Amirian. We are all brothers and cousins.

MT: How did the idea of creating a band come about?
DA: Well, we always loved music and instruments. When we were younger, we would just get together and make up songs. Our fathers played together when they were young, so I guess it’s something that passed to us from our parents.

MT: Does this have the potential of becoming a career?
DA: Music is our passion; it gives meaning to our lives. It is what separates us from others. We live for music, we live for playing our instruments, and this is something we won’t give up. Most probably it is going to be our career path, at least one of our career paths.

MT: What music does speak to you most?
DA: Actually, we like every kind of music, R&B, jazz and funk, alternative. We respect every genre of music and try to incorporate a little bit of everything in our music.

MT: Where do you see yourselves in about five years?
DA: Definitely. We are going to be around in five years, and even in ten years. One thing is for sure though, in five years we’ll be well known and liked. We are hoping to have to have a huge pool of fans, and I am sure it’s a dream that can be realized.

MT: Are you guys in school?
DA: All of us are students at this point in our lives. Emil goes to high school, Mikeal and Raffe attend Pasadena Community College, and I plan to join them there pretty soon, too.

MT: Who manages your band and books shows?
DA: The person in charge is our good friend Tigran Avoundjian. He goes to UCLA too. He books mini concerts for us, publicizes us, and does anything the very best manager would do.

MT: Is there anything you want the readers to know?
DA: Actually, there are some things that we want to talk about. As already mentioned, The Fall of April is a new band, and we are hoping to become big one day. We planned to have a CD out in the next two months. All we need for that is a sponsor who is willing to help us move forward.
