Words, words, words on a page,
Shackled by their author’s rage.
They could have been different.
For instance, they did not have to rhyme.
But that can change in time.

DENTITY
My grief is a vast deep sea
Connecting back and forth, to eternity.
The troubles of peoples so long ago
Remain today the lofty seat of identity.

21ST CENTURY MEMORY
Flags stream in the city breeze,
And ancient flutes color the sky
with melodic harmonies,
Reminiscent of a day long, long ago
A day when the land was whole
A day when our people roamed free
A day before Christianity
and a day before me –
The warm smell of our lavash,
and vitality of our duduk,
strong fathers and wise mothers –
That day lives
(as) Flags stream in the city breeze
And ancient flutes color the sky
with melodic harmonies,
Reminiscent of a day long, long ago.
Yetvart S. Majian
